Piazza Navona, Rome (2001)

Another photo from Italy, this one taken in the Piazza Navona in Rome - a beautiful square which inevitably attracts tourists - who, again, inevitably want to buy a portrait from a local artist.

Here the artists daughter has joined her mother after school and sits, patiently, waiting for her to finish work for the day.  I felt really sorry for this girl, I don’t know why, she just had a kind of sad demeanour about her.

Bird Man, Paris

This photo was, like many of them in the gallery, taken in Paris. If memory serves me right, it was Le Jardin des Plantes.

I spent the best part of a morning trying to find the entrance to this park - despite being quite large, the park isn’t well signposted and my French is rusty to say the least.  It covers a large site though, and several of the locals have their own corners to themselves, away from the other visitors.

Before this man arrived there were about 30 birds just congregating around the bench, and I couldn’t fathom out why.  Then the gent arrived and started feeding the birds from his hand.  He was quite happy to let me take a photo (well he smiled for one anyway!), but I prefer this one where he is just going about his business.

For one of the next gallery projects, we are looking to do a series of black and white portraits - and we need a model.  Ideally the model will have some experience of working with a photographer (but not 100% necessary), and it may take a few visits over several days.  We are looking to do something along the lines of that shown below:

Portrait

The photos will hopefully be made in to a small edition book - and will just contain photos of that one person.  Although not paying anything, whoever does the modelling will get several copies of the book, and several large prints.

Those interested in the book project, should get in touch via email with a few (small) photos to craig@crowded.co.uk.

Exhibition Example

We did something similar a few years back - namely a series of portraits that were exhibited by the BBC (see above).  Although there are only plans for a limited edition book at the moment,  it potentially could be exhibited in the future.

 UPDATE:

I have had a lot of feedback from this, and I am now sorted, thank you to all who sent their details in.

A while back I sold an image, via a stock library, to a publishing client who wished to put one of my flower photos on a front cover of a new book.  Usually, I never manage to find out the title (as it is all done through third parties) - but by complete coincidence, my wife picked the book up for a friends birthday in a local bookstore.  It’s below:

After a posting by Dave Beckerman (who seems a very nice man) on his blog (that relates to his online gallery), and a passing of emails between us - I have come to the conclusion I need to do another book.

I have in mind a series of black and white images from Europe - but this may well (and probably will) change before it is complete.  Another alternative is to produce a book of fashion portraits.

It will more than likely be a limited edition of 100 signed copies.

If this is something you would be keen on, drop me an email, and I’ll let you know when it is done (probably near Christmas).

Somewhere in the UK today there is a photo of the Parisian Lovers floating aound - licensed through a stock library we use - if anyone sees it let me know!  All I know is that it is a national newspaper in the UK.

Vienna Trams 1999

This is the ‘marmite photo’ on the Crowded Gallery site…..people either love it or hate it.  I am slightly biased as it was taken on my honeymoon, so it brings back nice memories for me.  In fact, I really like all my Vienna photos - and I am sure it is for that reason, and has nothing to do with the quality of photographs!

Saying that, it is one of the most viewed images, and a collector has ordered a ‘one off’ large print of this photograph and it came out really well.

It is taken right in the centre of Vienna as the late afternoon sun was setting in September.  My wife was watching my back throughout.  I think you will agree that she is one lucky lady to be able to spend her honeymoon watching traffic on the main ringway around the centre of Vienna, while I take photos.  Actually, I’m the lucky one.
